Fire destroys Mt Angel College buildings in Oregon

A Tuesday blaze wiped out the main Mt Angel College complex at St Benedict's near Mount Angel, leaving only the post office and a small printing press building. The stone seminary, gymnasium, bakery, sisters' house, chapel, and garage were all consumed by fire.

Reuben Lakin father of Mrs. Frank Jackson of Weston and Ed Zimmerman of Seattle died Sunday night at St Marys hospital in Walla Walla. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Weston with interment at Athena Cemetery. He was 79 years, 10 months and 12 days old.

Fire destroys the Piersol residence at Fourth and College

Fire likely started unknownly completely destroyed the Pier sol home at Fourth and College streets Tuesday morning. Charles Williams and his children were away at the farm. the house burned before water could reach it due to a broken hydrant valve. Firefighters saved limited water for nearby homes as cartridges exploded. Piersol carried about $1000 on the house. Williams lost all household effects including clothing.

James Potts a respected Athena citizen died Sunday evening at College Place sanitarium at 8 50 after months of ill health He received blood transfusion from A Mackenzie Meldrum former pastor at his bedside Surviving are his widow Myrtle Potts foster daughter W E Potts brother H H McLean half brother and Bella McLean Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Athena Born April 6 1865 in Ontario he moved to the Pacific Northwest at 21 and lived in Pendleton Walla Walla and Helena before settling in Athena where he expanded his farming and business ventures He retired to Portland in 1919 returning to Athena three years ago due to ill health

Sheriff Arrests Priest in Weiser Idaho Case

A man claiming to be Father Ryan of Weiser Idaho was arrested in Pendleton Saturday night for illegal possession of liquor and jailed. He posted $250 cash bond via Henry W. Collins and was released Sunday. A confiscated six cylinder car was released after Ryan paid a $150 fine. It marked his second arrest in two days.
