Land Sale Signals Soaring Wheat Prices In Knox Quarter

Portland and Seattle railway contracts bid at Vancouver

The Portland and Seattle railway contracts near Kennewick and Cape Horn see General Contractors Sioma & Shielda securing bids from ten firms for about 190 miles of line. The projected price totals around 10 million dollars with completion hoped by November 1, 1906. Separate Columbia and Willamette bridge costs exceed 2 million.

Pigweed Fatal to Cattle Reported at Agricultural College

At the Oregon Agricultural College it is announced that pigweed or redroot can be fatal to livestock under certain conditions. Professors Pernot Lake and Coote traced thousands of seeds in cattle feces to pigweed seeds, finding sharp silica spines in the intestine causing severe inflammation and death in cattle. The weed is particularly dangerous to cattle in Willamette valley pastures. Local wheat market notes are tacked to the report with Athena buyers quoting 64 cents.

Free Scholarship At Pendleton Academy For Local Youth
