Army camp prospects improve for Hermiston site
Major Richard Parks of the Engineers Corps visited Hermiston to inspect 80,000 acres offered for an army camp and training ground. The site lacks only two requirements, with full transportation, favorable ground, water, climate, drainage, and the Columbia River as an advantage. The camp could house about 26,000 men, and officials expect state support to attract additional troops from California and Washington.
