Montie B. Gwinn announces three Good Roads conventions in Umatilla County. Pendleton hosts October 22 with Athena on the 23rd and Echo the following day. Judge Scott backs the movement urging wide farmer and businessman turnout for road improvement legislation.
The union of Miss Emma Carrie Kerr shaw of Walla Walla and Mr. Arthur I. Moulton of Portland was performed Sunday at 6 oclock at the bride’s parents country home two miles southwest of the city. Rev S G Fisher officiated as pink and white decorations adorned the home. About 50 guests attended the ceremony and wedding supper. The bride is sister of Fred Kerr shaw who attended with his wife.
The Farmers and Traders bank in La Grande closed Monday after a forged note allegedly involving N. K. West. West, a La Grande merchant, denied ever giving such a note and pursued repayment via Elgin. Scriber also raced to Elgin, catching the note, while the bank’s temporary halt followed an internal roll striking that day.
Mrs E Lave Walker and Miss Edith and Miss Blanch Orswell visited Walla Walla to hear the Conreid Metropolitan Opera quartet with Rappold Jacoby and Campanari. They praised the voices and enjoyed a weekend visiting local spots in the garden city.
Mr and Mrs Shorte visited Arlington then Weston where Mr Shorte twisted his foot stepping off a porch at his mother in law Mrs Read s home. A physician diagnosed a badly broken leg above the ankle after initial impression of a sprain.
Pendleton church members decide to rebuild on the Matlock property at the upper Main Street bridge using concrete blocks. The 85 by 150 foot lot will host a handsome 15,000 dollar church with potential parsonage later. Fundraising will begin once cost and style are set. Fines total 1250 dollars in circuit court. Bogart Keegan and bartender Noble fined 1100. Mansfield fined 150. Tonight at 7:30 J D Loof candidate for presidential elector will speak in Athena at the opera house.

Proposes three new dormitories, caps salaries at $20,000 per school, instructor pay $1000-$1500, and a limit of 21 instructors. Enrollment totals Ashland 105 Monmouth 108 Weston 154, total 367.
A meeting of Athena band members led to a permanent organization with eight or nine new instruments to be ordered. A fundraising committee was formed to cover frat expenses as several old band members assist until the new group can operate independently. The band will be led by Professor J. S. Henry with Emory Worthington and others listed for specific parts.

The Zorba family gathered Sunday at O A Zerba’s home for an 85th birthday reunion. Attendees included O W B Zerba Mr and Mrs Blaine Dugger and the Zerba children Ernst and Lizale along with the Fortis family. A B McHwon and James Henderson visited the ill Mr McKenzie near Adama, with locals extending sympathy for his condition.
William Tompkins arrived home Wednesday after a month in Alberta. He reports good weather and prosperity, noting his land interests in Umatilla County, with the solovy in the far north appearing favorable.
J P Wilbur reports the Pendleton woolen mill can earn about 15000 dollars yearly at full capacity. His optimistic study convinced the Commercial association of profitability and he may take on management if feasible, after returning from Walla Walla to Union. The meeting drew all committee members and supporters ready to advance the project.
