Senator Dexter Poindexter aims to amend the long and short haul clause of the Interstate Commerce law. Inland cities may finally receive fair freight rates, as the proposal seeks to curb railroad tariffs seen as relics of unregulated monopoly. General William M. Blacksall endorses the bill, calling current prewar tariffs one of the nation’s greatest impositions. Water transport could replace some freight where competition exists, easing rail pressure.
