An early 20th century catalog-style list offers mixed woolens at 25c per yard, outing flannels 5c per yard, heavy outings 5c per yard, wide blue German fabrics, various hosiery for ladies and children, ribbed Union suits, and new Utz and Dunn ladies shoes. Prices span 5c to $5 for different items.
Blanche A. Caton Russell aged 22, of Spokane, died by aconite with a note left for husband Theodore Russell and their daughter. Born March 28 1881 in Walla Walla, she married in 1899 and leaves a husband, a 3 year old daughter, and weary relatives. Funeral held at Christian church with interment in Kees cemetery.
B Martin of Pendleton known as the Black Demon will box in a 10 round contest at the opera house tonight. The fifth bout is being promoted as a prize fight with police and DA discussions and a ruling that boxing for points is allowed. The event draws strong local sporting interest.
The Milton Fruit Growers Union ships the fourth carload of thin prunes from Wild Horse ranches via Athena with Hobson and Martinson supervising. Four refrigerator cars remain plus a pear car. John Bell orchard dominates the crop with above average yields and strong Chicago demand. Milton buyers and Blalock Co. of Walla Walla plan to handle Wild Horse apple variations next.
Agent Swart voices the case for a general storage warehouse in Athena with Elia company offering land for a building to store hay flour feed and merchandise. Northwest carload shipments gain favor and broader storage could boost potato fruit and other commodities though current facilities limit capacity and hinder fruit pricing for loading. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is advertised as a universal cure with no opium and broad appeal.
