Open new fall line of men’s suits and overcoats with odd sizes discounted from $5.00 to $15.00 to clear space. Prices include $8.50 wool suits for $5.50 and $20.00 suits for $15.00. Also offered are boys suits knee pants sizes 4-14 and long pants 10-20, plus boys overcoats and men’s blazers at reduced rates.

The First National Bank of Athena will have a brick successor with a 25 foot frontage on Main and 60 feet deep on Fourth Street, modeled after Pendleton’s bank. C A Barrett, a leading local builder, may add a 60 foot Main Street frontage if tenantable, expanding to include his hardware store. Mrs. J H Stahl plans a 50 foot Main Street brick building, two stories possible, dependent on profitability and weather. The town faces a brick-building shortage and major corner sites drive investment, signaling ambitious growth for Athena.
Land transfers involve Alex H. McIntyre acquiring Zerba land, with Gillis ranch and Waddingham parcels traded for cash. Hafes and Chamberlain push more sales, including a 160 acre farm four miles from Pilot Rock. Foundation cracks at the M E church prompt drainage work. McEwen may buy half the Cox hardware store. Johnson’s orchestra plays across multiple towns. A local boy choir is being trained for M E church services.
The Athena postoffice will relocate to the Barnett building on Main Street around December 1, replacing the Post building which lay outside railroad delivery jurisdiction by 33 feet. The new office near M J Bagley’s store will be prepared promptly with added conveniences for mail delivery, under Postmaster Githens. Also mentions death of Mrs Douglas in Weston, A L Swaggart’s land investments, a Pythian banquet, rising coal stove adoption, and vaudeville show plans at Athén Opera House.
The LaVern company presents a two hour mixed bill of comedy music song dance mystery and pictures direct from Portland with new acts each week. Edwand Hughes, a well known farmer from La Grande, shot Jim Parker in a local saloon Saturday evening. Parker sustained non fatal injuries. A masquerade ball is announced in Athena for Friday January, with dance training by local organizers.
