China offers to bring 500000 Chinese laborers here

A telegram from the Chinese Six Companies proposes to import up to 600000 or more Chinese farm workers to the United States to replace farm laborers drafted for war. The offer promises strict regulation, eventual deportation when the need ends, and a guarantee to prevent any misuse during their stay.

Liberty Loan Bonds Offer From First National Bank of Athans

The First National Bank of Athans invites subscriptions to Liberty Bonds with denominations of 50, 100, 1000 and up. Bonds run 80 years with 8 1/2 percent interest, buyable on installment. Government guarantees income adjustments if rates rise, funds spent in America, and a pledge to patriotic service. Subscriptions require a small initial payment, followed by scheduled installments through June to August.

Girls Conservation Club to Organize in Athena

H W Montel from Oregon Agricultural College visited Athena to spark a girls and young women canning club. Red Crows president Mex Hill named Mrs Ferguson chair of a four member committee to organize the group for systematic canning and evaporating of fruits vegetables and other produce with Miss Butler from Pendleton to teach domestic science and Montel to later teach drying and evaporation and arrange potential markets.

Weston Triumphs Over Athena In Five Two Loss

Weston won the Sunday game 5 to 2 against Athena. Weston scored four runs in the first inning off Pambrun, with Andre stifling further offense by Athena and yielding only one more Weston run for the rest of the game. The President declares Tuesday June 6 as the registration day for all U S males aged 21 to 30, with registration in their home precincts. County Clerk Notes Early Draft Registration Possibility

A dispatch from East Oregonian reports that male county residents aged 91 to 60 who must register by law on June 5 may register earlier if they will be absent from the county or are ill. County Clerk Brown received the guidance from Adjutant General White and is prepared to register the class immediately.
