Outspoken Iowa Senator Backs Haugen Farm Bill Push
Iowa Senator Cummins supports the Haugen farm bill after a White House call, saying it could pass in the Senate as a rider to the cooperative marketing bill and force a conference. Walla Walla Chamber luncheon speaker Senator F J Wilmer recalled the 1920s debate and urged action to let farmers set prices via a board drawn from farm groups. The bill would let the board raise wheat prices and extend similar power to corn, cotton, and dairy, though it lacks the earlier bill’s price fixing clause and may face a veto from President Coolidge, who would weigh practicality against chance.
