Mendel the Monk Scientist who Revealed Heredity Laws
Mendel, a Brunn monastery monk in Austria, taught at Brunn technical school and studied at Vienna University. He used the monastery garden as his lab, observing plant reproduction. In 1865 he announced his discoveries before the Brown Natural History Society but gained little immediate recognition. He grew and studied 10,000 plants and performed about 800 cross fertilizations.
