Silver Star Theatre Fire Destroys Milton Area Venue

The Silver Star motion picture theatre at Freewater was destroyed by a Friday night fire started in the operating room. Patrons evacuated calmly as Milton and Freewater fire crews fought the blaze with Walla Walla dispatches. Loss estimated in the thousands. manager was C. E. Wallis. The incident leaves the Twin Cities without a local cinema.

Weston Leader reports dairyman Ace Wagner buys Spence ranch

Ace Wagner, a Pine? Weston dairyman, purchased the Charles E. Spence ranch north of his current property. The 40 acre alfalfa farm, largely in hay, will support his growing dairy business. Wagner is the son in law of J. P. Lieuallen of Weston.

Heppner to Tap Artesian Well For Water Supply

Heppner plans to supply its municipal water from a new artesian well at the forks of Willow creek. The well was capped Saturday afternoon revealing 36 pounds pressure and water at 60 degrees, described as excellent quality.

Pendleton Takes Eastern Oregon Track Meet Title

Pendleton won the Eastern Oregon high school track meet scoring 67 points to La Grande Tigers 68. Joslin of Baker set a shot put record with 47 feet 3 inches and a discus mark of 121 feet 8 inches. McLoughlin High finished third with 33 points followed by Baker 26, Ontario 16, Union 5 and Hermiston 3.

Indians Trounce Umatilla In 6 1 Victory

The Mission Indians defeated Umatilla 6 to 1 to tie Helix for the lead in Umatilla county league. Umatilla committed five errors and the north end team suffered costly miscues. Beetles and Hoskins, F Hanson and R Woodward starred for the Indians.

Mothers Day Observance At Church Of Christ

A church event outlines a Mothers Day program with a morning sermon of appreciation. The school decorates the auditorium and presents bouquets to the oldest and youngest mothers. At 7:00 p m the young peoples meeting follows, with 8:00 p m a talk by Mr and Mrs Boyer on their Central Africa missionary work and the Congo.

A movement to honor A F Alexander described as father of the Wes nes toll gate road plans a memorial on Blue Mountain top along the mountain route. Alexander died in 1926 and subscriptions will be taken to fund the project.
