Outlaw Limthshot Bandit Tracked by Bloodhounds
A Spokane humane officer Harry Draper cornered and shot the outlaw Frank Smith on a timbered slope near New Era after bloodhounds tracked him from a log hideout. The chase drew hundreds, with dynamite blasts and rifle volleys as authorities pursued Smith, who had led a long crime spree across Oregon and Canby before his death at Troutdale on April 22. Local reports describe the dramatic capture and funeral procession as crowds viewed the corpse along the railroad route.
