WHEAT PROSPECTS IN ATHENA AREA AND RIVERTON LETTER

Frost damage in Athena area minimal with only a few low ground spots turning brown. Spring wheat lagging this season but shows good color and likely good yield with warmer weather and showers. Fall sown grain abundance and strong prospects for the season. Riverton letter reports severe liver complaint cured by Electric Bitters after eleven years of good health. Sold at Palace Drug store for 50 cents.

Caledonian Picnic to Spotlight Annual Colt Show in Athena

After the Caledonian Picnic in Athena on May 24 and 25 the main event is likely the annual colt show. Last year’s show ranked high for breeding and entries with over 100 horses in parade. This year many colts are eligible in draft classes but light harness entries seem to have fallen off, though a new yearling class may boost light harness stock.

Mountain Farmer Disappears Near Briggson Farm

John Stranberg a Finlander 40 years old married left his Briggson area farm April 16 while anxious to finish spring seeding and has since vanished. Neighbors fear foul play or accidental death. his cabin shows he intended to return shortly. He left no warning and his wife and daughter stay in Finland. Insurance tax figures report state note premiums at 3 256 003 88 with 2 percent to the state treasury. A local store advertises Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea 35 cents.

Second Trial of Mrs Warner in Will Forgery Case

Mrs Mabel Young Warner again faces trial on charges she forged a will to benefit herself from the $40 000 estate of J W Young of Weston. The second trial active with Judges Fee and Lowell and Col Raley for defense. Jury panel of six named plus new pool summoned. recess set to Tuesday morning. Also notes farewell sermon of Milton minister H B Smith and changes in Inland Grain Growers secretary post with J O Hales elected.

Street Committee Plans Watering Main Street At $60 Monthly

The Athena Truck Company proposed a $60 monthly cost to sprinkle Main Street this year. Of the $60, $46.25 has been subscribed by property owners and businessmen. the balance will likely be provided by the city. Councilmen Le Grow and Tompkins led the subscription drive. Watering aims to preserve macadam, reduce dust, and extend street life during dry seasons.

Moyer Haywood trial opens as venue settled in Boise

Clarence Darrow and E F Richardson arrive in Boise with lawyers for Chas Moyer William Haywood and George Pettibone. They announce no further venue motions and prepare for the May 9 start. Mrs Haywood and daughters visit daily while guards and courth ouse activity continue. Also noted are advertisements for Dr King s New Discovery and news of Mrs Katherine Matt s death on the reservation with funeral at Athena cemetery.
