Pendleton March 30. County Treasurer Summerville reports $1900 from the state treasury added to the county road fund. The sum comes from the United States five percent land sale from public lands sales in the state. The county court must apply it to road and bridge work. Last year the state contribution was $2779.

Dr. Fred Koepke Returns to Pendleton After Seven Years Abroad
Dr. Fred Koepke, son of Athena farmer Henry Koepke, arrived in Pendleton after a seven year absence. He will stay tonight then head to Portland for a few days before traveling to Los Angeles to lead a sanitarium this fall. He plans to return to San Francisco for medical practice after a recent trip through England, Germany, and France aboard a training ship.

Surveyors Called Off Pendleton Project In Uncertain Stand

Cheese Factory to Open in Ukiah Led by Emigh
Ward Emigh, proprietor of a Walla Walla creamery, plans a Ukiah cheese factory with 24000 pounds of milk daily capacity. Kershaw Charged in Larceny by Bailee
Walla Walla grain dealer H B Kershaw was arrested by Constable J M Bentley on a larceny by bailee charge. George Hartman Sr. filed the complaint. Pythian Lodge 29 Meets with Grand Chancellor in Attendance

Echo to Have Bank Opens in Echo by May First
Pendleton March 11 Articles of incorporation for the Echo state bank were sent to the secretary of state at Salem. Promoters include W J Furnish president of Pendleton savings bank J H Koontz a merchant of Echo and Ralph B Stanfield a Buttercreek stockman with 25000 capital already subscribed by local farmers merchants and stockmen. The bank aims to serve the Echo country as a growing community with plans for a building and a May 1 opening.

Death of John Berlin at Weston
John Berlin died at his Weston area home after a long illness. The 43 year old was buried from the Baptist church in Weston with Rev. Geo. T. Bilis officiating. His sister Mrs. Bartlett had died two weeks earlier and was buried in Athena cemetery. He is survived by brother Frank Berlin of Athena.

The Sportsmen's Association of the Northwest schedules its annual tournament in Portland on June 23 28 and 24 under Multnomah Rod and Gun Club. Diphtheria Strikes Child of Adams Editor Family
A child of Editor Fergu son of the Adams Advance has diphtheria and was treated by Dr. Stone. The patient was found in precarious condition but improved after toxine treatment with hopeful signs of recovery.
