Would Purchase Blalock Island Irrigation Scheme Rumored

A March report claims plans to irrigate Blalock Island in the Columbia River using a Northwestern Gun and Electric pumping plant from Walla Walla. Transmission lines may extend from Pendleton to Echo and Coyote, with Finch & Campbell owning most island land and Isaac W. Anderson tied to Philadelphia investors. The existing pump on the island has failed to deliver expected returns after years of effort and expense.

Moonshiners busted at Palouse farm near Rosalia

A raid by Deputy Collector O A Cole and Deputy Davenpeck seized a moonshining outfit and 60 gallons of apple jack from a farmhouse 12 miles NW of Rosalia Washington. Owner George Allman was arrested and claims the still was on his land when he bought it. officials doubt sale or use but will ship the gear to Spokane.

Northern Pacific Surveyors Reach Spring Hollow Area

The Northern Pacific surveyors extend two lines from Athens toward Adama and Spring Hollow. Lewiston reports show a Clarkston camp along the Snake River with workers focused on riverbank work. A past-time bridge line is cited as the reference for the current work.

Portland Sees Dumbarton Charter For Japan Wheat Trade

James Laidlaw & Co chartered the British steamship Dumbarton to load flour and wheat at Portland for Japan. The 6000 ton cargo, mainly flour, is valued over 200000 dollars at 3.45 dollars per barrel. The ship is due April 1 from the Orient, with grain tariffs on regular liners at five dollars a ton.

H Melstrom of Pendleton offers 165 dollars for information leading to the recovery of four horses described as a bay mare six years old with a brand on the right shoulder, a black mare with three white teeth four years old unbranded, a bay yearling stud colt unbranded, and a gray yearling stud with a white star on the forehead.
