Death of James Britten in Seattle and related notices

James Britten died at his Seattle home after a period of consumption. He had recently returned from California seeking improved health and leaves a wife and one son. His funeral will be held tomorrow in Walla Walla. He owned a farm on the reservation, with land bid at $25 per acre by Dr. Plamondon at the recent heirship land sale. The deceased was a member of local Masonic and Woodmen lodges, notified of his death by telegram. In Athena, B B Richards is named Justice of the Peace, with mixed public reaction noted in the Holix Herald.

Liquor to a Minor Case Shocks City Saloon Scene

Friday night Jerry Stone found his son Difford a minor in J. W. Davis saloon with two other youths, leading to arrest of Davis who pleaded not guilty. City seeks license revocation under ordinance 104 as two additional complaints allege minors loitering March 15. Case before City Recorder B B Richards appointed to fill vacancy.

Local Teacher Institute Set for Weston March 28

Weston hosts a local teacher's institute on March 28 with opening exercises at 10:00 a.m. A. H. Perryman leads school courtesy and a discussion by J. H. E. Scott. J. A. Ackerman speaks at noon, followed by addresses by J. H. Ackerman and Eula Foray. The Normal School faculty will host visiting teachers. attendees include AM. Bowman, Lillian Robinson, Anice Barnes, Lola Keller, and others. A joint committee from Helix fraternities plans cemetery grounds improvements and tree planting from Miller & Bons.

Tax payments near two thirds collected in Oregon district

The East Oregonian reports about 150000 dollars, or two thirds of the 280000 dollar tax total, has been paid. Regular payments brought 90000 dollars, with 90000 more largely by mail yet to be written up. Delayed remittances and a busy clerical staff marked the filing, as deputies await the rush end.
