Midway cafe owner dies after diving at pool
R C Doc Mathews of the Midway cafe died at Walla Walla last Friday from a broken back after diving into shallow water at the Freewater pool. The pool was only partly filled. He was taken to a Walla Walla hospital where an operation relieved spinal pressure. He leaves a widow and one son.

C F Cummings aged 66 died at his Wallula home after a stroke. A Kansas native born September 5, 1861 he moved to Wallula as a child and lived there 61 years. He worked in livery farming rail shops mercantile and fruit farming and served as postmaster for many years.
