Democratic state convention endorses Bryan for president in Portland
The Oregon Democrats met in Portland and named four delegates at large plus two from each district and passed a resolution endorsing William J. Bryan for the presidential nomination. Fatal Runaway Crash Claims Edward Zeuske at Weston
Edward Zeuske 28, son of Mr and Mrs A Zeuske pioneers of North Springs, was killed in a mountain grade runaway near Weston while returning from wood gathering. His skull was crushed when he jumped for safety as a wagon wheel and team toppled. He left a wife and child, a Pendleton upbringing, and four sisters.

Pendleton men indicted in land fraud scheme in Oregon
Seven indictments charging eleven prominent eastern Oregon citizens with conspiring to defraud the government of nearly eighty thousand acres of unallotted Indian lands in Umatilla county were reported by the federal grand jury in United States court on Monday. Among the accused are J. H. Raley a politician and lawyer William Slusher a state legislator Alan Knotts Johan W Crow John M Wynn William Caldwell and W Mathews wealthy ranchers and sheep men John Vert formerly of Pendleton’s First National Bank. Also named are Bailey Ross Samuel Olmatend wood dealers and William Rabe a horse trainer serving as active lieutenants. Raley appears in six indictments with Slusher and Raley facing two counts each. The charges allege they solicited and procured fraudulent applications and affidavits for the lands and induced applicants to enter contracts ensuring the lands would benefit the named defendants.

Murder Trial of Bud Barnes Goes to Jury at 2:14
After five hours and fifteen minutes of trial, jurors were sent to deliberate on the murder case of Hezekian H. Barnes known as Bud over the May 1 killing of Mrs Avon Aldrich. Judge Breets overruled a defense motion and continued the matter yesterday morning. Forty eight talesmen were examined with the defense using twelve peremptory challenges. the prosecution made no objections.
