Married After Ten Years In Oregon Legal Saga
The tale recounts the 1886 death of Charles Campbell in Albany linked to Mattie Allison and Capt Saunders. Saunders killed Campbell in a dispute over Allison, was tried, jailed, escaped, then recaptured. Sentenced to life, he later earned a pardon and became a lawyer in Spokane before a postmaster role at Colville. Allison, long a public school teacher in Montana, never stood trial and later married in Idaho.

Oregon rail line spared by hopeful river flood
Three work trains were sent from Umatilla to Portland along the Oregon Railway & Navigation line to save riprap near the track as the river rose within a few feet of the rails. Observers expect the flood to pass with little heavy volume, forecasting limited washouts and only brief delays. Hood’s Sarsaparilla ads interrupt the local news with medical pitches and a house-to-house canvassing offer for soaps and flavor extracts.
