Land Sale Covers 1440 Acres in Oregon Valley

The East Oregonian reports a sale of 1440 acres of wheat land for about 250000 dollars. J. W. Schafer bought 640 acres from Marion Jack, who sold 800 acres to H. W. Collins, who also leased 160 adjoining. Collins reserves the crop on 489 acres.

Wheat cutworms devastate Pendleton crop on 40 acres

Wheat heads on about 40 acres belonging to Pendleton owners Lowell Granger and George Stangier were ruined by cutworms that moved from adjacent sod. The pests damaged roughly 20 percent on additional acreage within the 400 acres they own, with Stangier-Granger ranch ten miles northwest of Pendleton remaining the primary affected site.

O D O Club Elects Officers For Year At Johnston Home

The O. D. O. club met Thursday afternoon at Mrs. George Johnston’s home with sixteen members present. Officers elected: Mrs. Forrest Zerba president, Mrs. Jess Smith vice president, Mrs. Charles Smith secretary treasurer, Mrs. Jess Gordon reporter. A June 13 picnic at Cayuse station was planned. Decoration Day Observed Quietly in Athena

There were no public ceremonies at Athena on Memorial Day. Private grave decorations occurred Sunday and Monday. the legal holiday was observed only by two banks and the post office. Stores and businesses stayed open for normal work.

Major Lee Moorhouse of Pendleton a well known East ern Oregon figure and Umatilla county pioneer of 1861 died Tuesday evening after a month long illness. He leaves a widow and three daughters. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at the residence.

India faces wheat export ban as harvest fall limits sales

The Indian Department of Agriculture forecasts a wheat crop of 28,208,000 bushels this year, far below last year’s 24,651,000 and the five year average. Normal consumption will consume the entire harvest, leaving practically no exportable wheat.

Big Blaze Ravages Imbler Grain Elevator and Warehouses

A Saturday night fire in Imbler Oregon caused about 80000 dollars in damage to a grain elevator two warehouses and the stockyards. The blaze began in the J Blackington warehouse and quickly spread to the S N Martin warehouse stockyards and elevator. Imbler lacked fire fighting equipment and called La Grande and Elgin for assistance. Both towns answered the call.

U S Exports Hit Record Trade Totals in January

Revised January foreign trade data from the commerce department show a US trade surplus of 19 million dollars with a total trade value of 1.3 billion. Imports reached 416.8 million while exports totaled 907.2 million, with Europe both sending goods to the United States and taking American products in sizable amounts. Exports to Europe declined by about 70 million from the previous year, while European imports rose over 8 million.
