Memorial Day in Athena Honoring the Dead
Memorial Day activities led by Athena’s Grand Army featured a church service, a parade to the cemetery, and memorial rites for Maine sailors. The day included a large turnout, band performances, and plans to fund a monument in Athena cemetery to honor the Maine dead. A later program at the opera house and lunch followed, with local leaders delivering remarks and a focus on patriotism.
