Eastern Oregon Dominant Factor in Governor Nomination

In a Morning Oregonian analysis John W. Kelly argues Eastern Oregon GOP central committee members will decide the governor nominee at the July 25 meeting chaired by Phil Metschan. The bloc of nine eastern members seeks influence on the chair, the nominee, and regional influence, amid calls for western dominance to be balanced. Bruce Dennis and Julius L. Meier emerge as potential backers, with Meier viewed as a viable active candidate or strong supporter of the committee’s choice, and the Joseph platform promoted by Meier backers.
