Port land youth loses arm in railway incident at Klamath Falls

Mr Boyles Killed In Accident Near Harrington
D. C. Boyles uncle of Mrs. Herbert Hale died from injuries after an automobile accident near Harrington Washington last Tuesday. He ran off a steep grade while passing a wagon. The Hale family traveled to the Willamette valley for the funeral. He had recently visited the Hale home and was a desk clerk at Hot Lake.

Seventy Year Old Miner Killed in Claim Fight Surrenders
Grants Pass Oregon miner John Appel 70 surrendered after a fatal shooting on a mining claim near the California Oregon line. Orloff 50s operator of an adjoining claim was found dead across the border. Appel said the shooting was in self defense following a quarrel over ownership. Both men had mined together for a year in northern California.

The East Oregonian reports the 1930 honor for shipping the season’s first grain went to C. C. Curl Adama and the Kerr Gifford company. A Curl carload was sent to Portland with soft Federation wheat testing 59 pounds per bushel and clean. Mrs. Stanton aged 83 died at Colfax Washington on Wednesday after a short illness. She was a pioneer of Athena arriving with her husband in Centerville later Athena and raised eight children. Washington D C March 25 The Interstate Commerce Commission approved new rate adjustments for GOAT RAILROADS covering north south freight between California seaports and Pacific ports in Oregon and Kingston to meet steamboat competition. The orders effective November 25 permit higher inland rates and lower seaport rates with ceilings on increases through intermediate inland points. Differential above steamer charges ranges 11 to 18 cents per hundred pounds by class and 3 to 15 cents for land commodity rates. Lumber shipments from north coast points to southern California may use rates below intermediate point levels and the lumber complaint was dismissed.

World War veterans entitled to disability allowance under the World War Veterans Act may file through nearest Red Cross chapter. Pacific Branch says application blanks are distributed to 300 Pacific Coast chapters to start services promptly.
