Early grain growth in Umatilla County pioneers
In 1863 Andrew Kilgore may have raised the first grain for a livelihood at Weston while 1865 to 1878 saw gradual expansion of wheat with horse and hand threshing. Settlers like Kilgore Green Lieuallen Hales Barrett Linville Royse and others progressed from stock raising to sod breaking and grain farming aided by a 1879 railroad expansion and later roads.
