Bribed by Japs to wreck ship near West Point

The Tacoma, loaded with 2000 tons of salt beef believed for Russia, ran ashore near West Point after beaching in broad daylight. Company officials allege Japanese authorities bribed the navigating officer to cause the loss. Seattle observers noted odd movements as the steamer left port and headed toward West Point. Efforts to refloat her today have failed.

A house to house search is under way in the suspected district while revolutionists in Russia reportedly run grenade plants amid unrest over Manchuria.

Campbell system touted to boost soil moisture in semi arid West

Col. RB C Judson of O R & N toured Kansas Nebraska and Wyoming to study the Campbell soil culture method. He urges Eastern Oregon papers to publish all information on the system which aims to conserve moisture with deep plowing and subsurface packing. Campbell claims 12 to 15 inches annual rainfall suffices with his method, which emphasizes keeping moisture in soil, deep initial plowing, surface culture, and routine harrowing and cultivation in crops.
