Courthouse Levy Fails In County Election

A county courthouse levy failed as 1338 voted for the measure and 2002 against it in a 3340 ballot turnout. Pendleton supported 773 to 9328 against while outside Pendleton most precincts rejected the proposal. Athena Weston Adams Gibbon Helix all voted against with small local variances. Hero Saves Child From Bear Creek Farm Blaze

A man rushed from his burning Bear Creek farmhouse Sunday morning to reach his three year old child trapped inside. The structure burned completely, and none of its contents could be saved.

Toll Road Fund Drive Under Way in Weston Area

Weston Leader notes a total $800 to buy the old toll road to secure more federal aid for the Weston Elgin road. Umatilla and Union counties contribute $200 each, while remaining $400 comes from Walla Walla $100 Milton Freewater $100 Weston $50 and Elgin $150.

Columbia Christian Endeavor Rally Draws Local and Area Guests

About seventy five members attended the Columbia Christian Endeavor Rally at the First Christian church basement with guests from Helix Pendleton Freewater Milton and other areas. A social feed followed by songs and a strong address by Paul Brown emphasized Y P F E union work and urged attendance at the State Convention and a consecrated Christian life. Juanita Crawford and Effie Ritchie presided. the home society contributed well making it a happy profitable gathering.

Icy pavement crash near Saxe station injures none seriously

An icy road near Saxe station Sunday evening caused a chain of crashes. Pendleton attorney A Cooley’s car skidded off the pavement and hit the embankment. Several vehicles followed, causing a multi car smashup with no serious injuries reported.
