Funeral services for A. M. Roche held in Baptist church
Funeral services for the late A. M. Roche who died February 13 at Portland were held in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon. He was 77 years old and father of Mrs. Harry Allen, Mrs. Jeanette Taylor and Mrs. John Peebler, former Athena residents. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Logsdon were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Mace in Richland Washington.

Splendid Athena Boy Scouts Night At The Standard
Athena Boy Scouts staged a grand Parent's Night at the Standard Theatre raising 55.45 in proceeds. Dr Hermann Reichard of Walla Walla spoke on Scout history and tests, praising Scout Master LeRoy and the Athena troop. The ceremony featured flag presentations by Athena-Weston American Legion Post and demonstrations of fire building, signaling and first aid, with motion pictures and a Our Gang comedy. The Pendleton Music House provided Orthophonic Victrola music for the event.

Boy Helper Suffers Knee Cut at Blacksmith Shop
Percy Hoggard, a Jensen's blacksmith shop helper, cut his knee with a drawing knife. The blade dented the kneecap, and Dr. Sharp warns had it struck lower the ligaments would be severed and the boy would be a cripple for life. The injury will leave only a scar.

Road district tax plan eyed to fund 15 mile loop North of Athena
About thirty landowners met at Watts & Prestlye to discuss forming a road district and a ten mill tax to finance a loop road from Athena north to Gerking Flat and Sheldon Taylor farm. The plan covers roughly thirty eight sections, valued at two million dollars, with county match and voter approval anticipated this year for completion next year. Committees from both districts were named and a November vote set to authorize taxation for the project.

Pike Miller and Wilber Harden represented Athena at the Weston meeting and placed the town in the six team Big Six Baseball League for the 1928 season. The league elected Charles Hendricks as president and M I Miller as secretary treasurer. Opening games set April 8 with Athena at Pendleton, Helix at Adams, and Weston at Milton-Freewater. Athena boys defeated Griswood High of Helix 17 to 138 after leading 9 to 7 at halftime and with Miller and Johnston starring. Veteran editor Parker dies at 85 in California
Colonel Frank J. Parker, 85, former publisher of the Walla Walla Statesman, died at his Kelseyville home after a several weeks illness. A Nez Perce War veteran and scout, he led the Statesman from 1878 to 1900, introduced the steam press, and later lived in California with his widow Martha Newen Parker and four sons.
