Clemons Passes Away After Illness in Athena
Benjamin Clemons, prominent local resident of Athena, died Sunday at 10:10 a.m. after a three decade illness. Born February 28, 1844 in Spring, he crossed the plains in 1870s, settled in Athena after 1878, and was among the first settlers. He married Emma Middleton in 1870, later Clara E. White in 1888, with five children born and two deceased. Survived by wife and children Kosta Foy, Kidder, Joseph A. D. Clemons, Senth Kidder, and Howard 0. Clemons, plus several grandchildren. Active in Masons and A. O. U. W. Funeral services held Tuesday at the Baptist church with Rev. Milo G. Bentley. burial by Dolph Lodge A. F. and A. M. honor guards.
