Nominations For City Offices At Mass Meeting

A mass meeting on Friday drew 104 votes for mayor with Watts Barrett and Thompson in contention. Nominations for councilmen include Zerba Smith Miller Barrett Watts Morton Banister Thompson and others. Zerba was named city treasurer by acclamation and Richards was chosen for recorder.

Mother Pinkerton Pioneer Widow Dies in Athena at 76

Mrs Hlien Pinkerton widow of William Pinkerton died at home in Athena on February 2 after long illness at age 76. She was born in Missouri in 1841 maiden name Bounds, crossed the plains in 1865, helped develop the county, and resided in Athena before her death. Surviving are one daughter Mrs James A Nelson of Alberta four sons N H Pinkerton Edward J W and D A Pinkerton, all present at funeral conducted by Rev W S Payne at the Christian church.

Five People Bitten by Rabid Dog Prompt Pasteur Treatment

Five residents were bitten by a rabid fox terrier at Mrs Harden's home. J B Mathers and Wm Konasek, with Dr Newsom, traveled to Portland for Pasteur serum, now treating all bitten individuals including Edna Haren Pent Linn and Johnny Rothrock. A nearby dog near Clemons' mill was killed after showing rabies signs. Minx Davoust headlines Feb 20 with a varied repertoire, while Miaudault is set for Feb 20 at China-Wan church as part of the Lyceum course.

Death of Mrs Nicholas Taitinger after pneumonia

Mrs Nicholas Taitinger, 45, died at her home near Clar enholm Alberta following a severe cold that developed into pneumonia. The funeral was held yesterday at the Baptist church as her husband and six children mourn her loss. The family had lived in this county before moving to Alberta. Children were summoned from Alberta for the services.

Hog market at Portland tops with 21.70 sale

The market shows strong gains as 81 head of hogs weighing about 201 pounds sold for 4 dollars per cwt. Hogs led by H Henderson of North Yakima shipped by his yards. Prices rose to 21.70 per hundredweight, a 13 cent advance from last week, with cattle and sheep steadier and a light sheep run.
