County Schools Discuss Industrial Move and Life Education

County Superintendent F K Welles and Athena Principal Wiley met with the school board and Commercial Association to discuss country life education and the county high school law. Governors and college officials spoke on farm education, garden contests, and upcoming fairs with regional clubs arranging activities across Baker, Dayton, Klamath Falls, Adams, and Portland.

Athena Band Dedicates Concert Shows Notable Improvement

The Athena Band, under Professor Edgar L. Smith, delivered a highly praised performance at the opera house Saturday evening. Vocal solos by Velma Wilkinson and Zelma DePeatt, violin by John Braden, and piano by Belle McIntyre complemented a nearly full house with strong encores.

County school tax plan ties up lazy holdings

Large county properties escape school tax but under the new law would pay a share via special levy. Figures show 860 dollars would fund the fund and 1400 drawn from the high school. the levy would be 80 cents per 1000 property value. Welles and Wiley discuss the country life education movement, noting its origin in Yamhill county and the success of a special week. Community events include a Commercial Club farm diner with prizes, a silver cup for the top school, and a joint Horticultural meeting at Mosier developing the Country Life plan. Plans in Prairie City aim to engage county schools with city schools in the movement.

Offenders Caught After Grain Theft Near Grandview

A grain theft case near Grandview station led to the arrest of Ed Jones after officers traced horse tracks to the Jones homestead. Jones admitted borrowing and returning the wagon late Sunday. barley was found buried and he confessed to taking grain from the Grandview warehouse. The episode followed a pursuit via Touchet and Walla Walla counties, ending with his confinement in the county jail.
