U S Water Adjudication Aims At Umatilla Rights

U S action seeks 600 or more water rights along the Umatilla River and its tributaries to gauge available irrigation water. Proceedings under Oregon law will feature testimony from Eastern Oregon pioneers, with hearings at Pendleton and Echo. A $5000 appropriation funds the adjudication.

The late Thomas J. Kirk's will was probated in Pendleton. Executors named are Edward BE Koonte and Marion Jack. Estate valued at 175000 to 200000 remains intact for 20 years or until the widow remarries, then shared among heirs. Widow receives 700 annually with home at Athens. house to be rebuilt if fire damages. other provisions for heirs and annual deposits outlined. Also notes changes to Milton-Freewater name on the map and postal guidance on loose coins handling by rural carriers.

Pioneer of the Year 1861 John Fletcher Visits Town

John Fletcher an 1861 pioneer now in the Big Bend near Waterville visits with Mrs Fletcher and old friends from Houston. He crossed the plains with parents in 1861, is 70, veteran of the Indian war, once with Captain Kelly’s Washington era Volunteers. He helped found Weston, later owned 1400 acres near Big Bend now valued at $5,000 per acre with railroads. He traveled to Seattle last spring to visit sons in business. The couple have six children and three continue to pride. Call Charles Coomans for settlement.
