Weston Civic Club Elects Officers and Improves Town

Weston women gathered at United Brethren church for a civic improvement meeting. Mrs. Minnie Walker presided with Alice I. Price as vice president and Mrs. Imella B. Pinkerton as secretary and treasurer. About sixty members marched to the Methodists as the Ladies Band led a goodly procession. Mrs. Alice Kirkpatrick stated the meeting’s object and G. W. Proebater was asked to press temporary chairmanship.

Fight Fruit Pest Prompts County Orchard Cleanup

Fruit Inspector Campbell plans to visit county orchards and enlist local growers and merchants to erase the hold-over canker disease. He urges prompt action to prevent spread, stressing concerted effort over costly later remedies. Campbell will visit any orchard upon request and illustrate methods to fight blight in the field.

Sunshine Club Meetings In Country Neighborhood West Of Athena

The Sunshine Club ongoing in the country neighborhood west of Athena held its November 12 meeting at Mrs Otbs Reeder's home with three officers and five members present. Refreshments were served by the host assisted by her mother. An enjoyable afternoon followed. The December 5 gathering met at Mrs Henry Schmitt's home with hospitality and boxboven refreshments after the session.

County Treasurer Bradley Returns After Window Attack

County Treasurer G. W. Bradley recovers after being seriously injured when a window was forced in at his office last Tuesday night. He has been confined at home for days and his wounds were deeper than first thought, requiring careful medical attention. Dr A. E. Tamioule, a state asylum official, has been named acting assistant superintendent at the Salem state hospital.

Pendleton Branch Hospital Sees Appointment Change

The East Oregonian reports a Saturday meeting of the state asylum board selected a new assistant at the Pendleton branch with option to return to Sa Jem if preferred. The board may move a dozen to fifteen patients and several assistants to Pendleton mid month to ready the building for occupancy. The article also notes a separate suit by Preston Shaffer Milling Co. against J.P. Bagan for $899.95, and a local vote in favor of installing iron pipe bonded at $1200 with municipal officers re elected.

Platt Jones to Perform at Opera House Next Week

Wednesday evening of next week the third number of the lyosum course will be presented when Platt Jones entertainer will appear at the opera house. Advance notices proclaim Mr Joven to excel in kindly humor and pleasant mimicry earning audience affection as one of the best on the circuit. After Jones appearance two numbers remain to complete the course.

School Officials Annual Meeting Called for Pendleton

County Superintendent Welles calls the annual meeting of school directors and clerks in Pendleton on Saturday December 21 at 10 am. The event emphasizes duties, with State Superintendent L R Alderman as principal speaker. A reduced rate, valid with signed receipts, is offered for delegates and visitors.
