Heroic Rescue in the Northland
In the Yukon wilderness two months after a seaplane vanished, Bob Marten Wrangel Alaska and Emil Kading German plane mechanic were found alive on Wednesday while their pilot Captain E J A Burke was dead. They survived on caribou and faced extreme cold with Kading’s two frozen toes. Rescue pilot Everett Wasson and guide Joe Walsh located them 40 miles from the deserted plane after two Navy planes and several others had withdrawn. Burke died of exposure November 20.
