Athena News Roundup Echoes Social and Business Moves
Athena and Walla Walla residents figure in a swarm of notices and updates. Movements include Mildred Stanton visiting relatives, Dick and Dudley traveling between Portland and Athena, and Mrs Jorgenson hosting in Seattle. Local improvements appear at the St Nichols Hotel and the Miller’s bakery. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Walter Hinkle in Echo, and grain and mill operations continue with Richneda’s chop mill expanding and storage added. Community announcements cover auctions, hunting trips, and school construction contracts, with personnel changes at the Preston Shaffer Milling Co and local electric work. Death in Portland of A. McDaniel noted, and a Silver Tea fundraiser planned by the Knitting Club for the Red Cross. A large crop harvest and freight news frame a busy period in the region.
