A blaze yesterday noon destroyed about 9800 sacks of wheat in the Kirk field east of town. Fire started near a threshing engine area and spread from straw to stubble until damped by a city sprinkler. About 100 sacks were saved. insurance covered the burned portion.

Frank Smith a well known sheepman and farmer from Pilot Rock shot himself in the head with a pistol in his parents home. He had a long history of poor health since an accident and had repeatedly threatened self harm during periods of deep despondency.
