Athena High School Names New Principal and Staff

Athena’s school board elected Prof. C. O. Baker principal for the coming year and chose Ernest Welles as assistant principal. Grade teachers include Miax Foreman sixth to eighth, Livonia Lubenheim for sixth and seventh, Homer Watts for fourth and fifth, Grace Caplod for second and eighth, and Sadie Chrisman for the primary department. New credentials indicate strong staffing, with likely improvements to the school house and grounds such as an office for the principal and possible fencing changes.

Dale Preston Dies at 40 After Illness in Walla Walla

Dale Preston, age 40, died at his Walla Walla home after four months illness from Brights disease and complications. He founded and managed the Preston Parton Milling Co in Walla Walla, married Stella Anderson in Athena, and left a sizable estate. Survived by wife, his parents, and two brothers. funeral in Walla Walla at 2:30 pm conducted by the Masons.

Galgallus wheat praised for drought resistance and yield

Dell McCarthy reports that Galgallus wheat grown near Boho on the A. B. McCarthy ranch has shown drought resistance and high yield in three seasons. In (year) it produced 26 bushels per acre against 20 elsewhere, suggesting strong price potential for blue stem markets.
