Ed Switsler known in Athena as a gambler created a disturbance at his Pendleton home early Saturday, brutalizing his wife and prompting neighbors to intervene. The incident spurred talk of a wife beating complaint and led to enforcement actions against local saloons under Sunday closing laws, with authorities pledging prosecutions to the circuit court set for October.
Henry Blackman of Morrow county promotes an Eastern Oregon week during the livestock show at the exposition, September 19 and 20, with Colin Meisaac seeking railroad rates to bring thousands of Eastern Oregon residents.
