Farmhouse fire near town ends with loss of goods

Otis and Mrs. Whiteman shelter a portion of their household before the northwest farm home burned in a noon blaze, a high wind fanning the flames. Mrs. Whiteman narrowly avoided injury during an ax accident as items were passed from the home, and substantial possessions were lost though the house was insured for 700.

To Teach Summer Terms In Umatilla County

Superintendent Frank K. Welles reports a flood of applications from eastern teachers seeking short summer terms in Umatilla County. Most local schools already have teachers and will open soon, leaving few opportunities for outsiders despite the large number of applicants.

Monthly Public Sales Aims To Start In Community

Auctioneer F G Lucas plans regular monthly sales to handle goods and chattels worth nearly 1000 dollars including horses cows swine and vehicles. The first sale of the series is announced for Saturday the 13th with advertising and a commission charged. A complete list of items will be published in the press and announced on hand bills.

Glanders Outbreak Alarms Elmira Area Horses

Residents south of Elmira Washington report a glanders outbreak among horses. A sick horse brought to Wilbur was diagnosed by a veterinarian as advanced glanders and died before the owner arrived. Ten other horses are afflicted in the region.

Davison Sells Farm to Taylor for 13200 at 110 Per Acre

John Davison sells the 120 acre farm near town to David Taylor for 13200. Taylor pays 110 per acre and takes the property as Davison, in ill health, plans to leave tonight for Pendleton and then Mexico with arrangements for a trip to the Southern republic. Ace McDaniel may join.
