Kiwanis Barrels Aim to Aid Needy in Atchison Stores

Kiwanis and Atchison Public Health join a winter food drive in 28 local grocery stores. Barrels labeled Help the Needy will accept part of shoppers’ orders, with contents collected weekly and distributed to families in need. Barrels appear Monday in listed stores and others will follow as more grocers join.

Death by own action near Troy in 50s man’s suicide

Leroy Edgar Mix died at his home two miles north of Troy Tuesday morning about 6 30. Coroner E F Karr ruled death by own action after he went to a pasture behind his residence with a 12 gauge shotgun. He was born nearby and lived in the area all his life. He was just past 50. He married Minnie Young on July 1, 1907, at Fairbury Nebraska. Survived by wife two sons Harley and Edgar three daughters Stella Vera and Alma his mother Mrs Elizabeth Mix Troy one brother Alva Mix Troy three sisters Mrs Eva Young Troy Mrs Ida Hart Kansas City Mo and Mrs Nora Ayres Eureka Calif. Funeral at Karr chapel Wednesday at 2 pm burial in Courter cemetery.

Death of Dr. C. M. Lukens in Muscotah

Dr. C M Lukens a 60 year old Muscotah dentist died in his home from a stroke. He had been in ill health with high blood pressure but was recently improving. Burial will be at Wetmore. He practiced in Muscotah since 1905 and was active in Republican politics. He is survived by wife Hallie Graham Lukens, son Graham St. Clair Lukens, two brothers, a grandson, and other relatives.
