Three Muscotah youths face manslaughter charges in Brouse death

County attorney Maurice O Keefe announces manslaughter charges against Frank Speer Ivan Berry and Harold McCubbin for the death of Edward Brouse and injuring 13 year old Charles Bennington two miles east of Muscotah. Inquest testimony details claims of drinking and a car driven by Berry striking Brouse while he fixed a tire. Witnesses recount suspects statements and a damaged car as the coroner's jury weighs verdicts amid ongoing inquest proceedings.

Col Ralph Love of Kansas Power & Light Co proposes a downtown white way on Commercial and Third streets at no cost to property owners, in exchange for retaining old poles and upgrading lines. City commissioners will study the plan, seek owner input, and could start installation if accepted, with cost to the power company and a small rise in city electricity bills.

Pioneer Buchanan County resident dies at home

Mrs. Tennessee Caroline Hood, 72, longtime Buchanan county resident, died at 10:50 p m at her East Atchison home after a six month illness. Born November 4 1856 in Tennessee, she moved to the county with her parents and remained nearby. Survived by husband Samuel Hood. children John Hood Chicago Homer Hood East Atchison Mrs Emil Schmitt East Atchison Will Hood East Atchison Miss Gertrude Hood East Atchison Roy Hood Atchison Mrs Ethel Moyer East Atchison plus five grandchildren. Effingham high school plan upheld. bids set

Effingham school board refused changes to the community high school plan and scheduled December 5 at 2 pm to receive bids, projected cost about 100000 dollars. Opposition centers on nearby smaller communities seeking four year high schools. two dissidents attended the session.

Rushville Boy Sucks Peanut Into Lung

The son of Mr and Mrs R L Brown of Rushville while playing on the floor found a shelled peanut. He placed it in his mouth and somehow drew it into a lung. He was rushed to a specialty hospital in St Joe where doctors said nothing could be done until inflammation develops.
