Wounds Fatal to B. J. Kelly in Farmyard Gun Battle

Missouri Pacific agent B J Kelly, 56, was fatally shot and Oscar A Peterson, 35, wounded in a gun battle with alleged thieves on the J M Wickham farm four miles west of Falls City Nebraska. Officers pursued three men in a brown five passenger car, as wire thefts triggered the confrontation. Kelly died minutes after being struck, Peterson survived and was treated at Falls City General Hospital. witnesses described a rapid exchange of fire near the Wickham residence.

Johnson 43 years with Missouri Pacific marked by long service

F P Johnson vice president in charge of finances for Missouri Pacific Railroad completed 43 years with the company last month. Born January 27 1874 in New York City he moved to St Louis as a child and began work at 15. He rose through the ranks and was appointed to his current post in 1926.

Mrs. Emma Branam Dies After Yearlong Illness

Mrs. Emma Butcher Branam, 72, wife of James A. Branam, died at 7:30 this morning at 1529 Main Street after a year of illness. Funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stanton & Stanton chapel, burial Oak Hill cemetery. Born Feb 3, 1860 in Mercer county Missouri, she married Branam Dec 25, 1875. Survived by husband, two daughters Mrs. A. M. Bean and Mrs. R. M. Hartman, one son Roy Branam, 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several relatives.

Adam Baker dies at 81 in Atchison County

Adam Baker 81 retired Atchison furniture merchant died this afternoon at his sister Mrs. John Weinmann’s home 621 Riley street. Born in Pennsylvania he came to Atchison county as a boy. He farmed then worked with the late John Weinmann in the furniture business. Brother Chris Baker lives south of town. Funeral arrangements by Lawin Douglass to be announced. Newt Walker and several others listed as ill. Missouri River icebound and local notes follow.

Jurors Picked for April Term of Court in Atchison

Forty jurors were drawn for the April district court term, starting April 11, with notices to appear on April 18. The list includes Atchison-Harley Keel and A P Goodman among others, plus township selections. Separately, funeral services for Norman B. Judd, 81, will be held in Falls City with burial at Steele cemetery.

Charles Merritt Arrested in Oklahoma City Bank Robbery Case

Charles Merritt, sought for nearly three years in the $75,090 Oklahoma City bank messenger robbery of May 23, 1929, was arrested yesterday in New Orleans. He had been linked with James M. Hays and Russell Gibson, with an international search centered in Oklahoma City. Hays avoided capture. Merritt, once a slot operator in Atchison, had previous offenses and continued evasion before his capture.

Mrs Hulda Vetsch Dies At 8 This Morning

Mrs Hulda Vetsch wife of Peter Vetsch died at her home 1514 Santa Fe street at eight o clock after long illness. Funeral service 2 pm Monday at Lawin Douglass chapel with Rev J A San De Fur officiating. Burial Oak Hill cemetery. Born Juno Wisconsin March 14 1860. Surviving are husband two sons Joseph Smith Cincinnati Arnold Smith Whiting one sister Mrs William Lovelace Muscotah two brothers Henry Raasch Oklahoma City Amos Raasch Florida five grandchildren and one great grand child. Mr and Mrs G B Howden now living 501 North Second street recently moved here from Concordia Howden is a Missouri Pacific official.
