Atchison Rates Cut Electric Bills June First
The city commission approved voluntary rate cuts by Kansas Power and Light Co, lowering domestic and commercial bills by about 20 to 25 percent. Death Claims Albert Butler Dickens After Stroke
Albert Butler Dickens aged 87 died at 8:30 AM at his home 1117 Santa Fe street after a paralytic stroke on Saturday. Born December 31, 1840 in Schuyler county New York he served in the Civil War including Chancellorsville Gettysburg and Lookout Mountain. He later farmed in Doniphan county Kansas, married Mannie Otten in 1881, retired in 1910 and moved to Atchison. Surviving are two sons five daughters and several grandchildren. Funeral at 2:30 PM from his residence with burial in Mt Vernon cemetery.

At the county convention the Democrats endorsed James Reed for president at the state convention on April 24 at Hutchinson. The meeting opened the way for a possible Ayres vote on early ballots, while also endorsing Edgar C. Bennett and Babe P. Waggener for national delegates. The new county superintendent is O F Barnard of Farmington.

Paulen To Join State Air Tour In Atchison Flight Event
Governor Ben S. Paulen will join the all Kansas air tour when 27 ships arrive in Atchison on April 4. He may toastmaster the Aviation Day banquet while plans for permanent landing fields advance. The trip includes Marcellus Murdock and about 40 airplanes on display with local and visiting pilots in attendance.

Blair Mill Plans Major $40,000 Storage Expansion
Blair Milling Co will add eight large concrete grain storage tanks, nine bins, and blending facilities to boost capacity by about 200,000 bushels. The project, costing near $40,000, includes relocation of old bins and starts after March 20 with Homer Wyatt as planners. Total capacity will reach about 700,000 bushels with new tanks south of the newer mill unit.

Tractor Rescues Horse From Quicksand Near Doniphan
A cow owned by Charles Pollard of Spring Grove near Doniphan sank into quicksand along the creek bed Wednesday evening. A tractor driven by Frank Whittaker, aided by a block and tackle and nearby neighbors, freed the horse that became mired up to its hips. The cow was lost.
