Kansas roads revived debate ends with dead issue
Kansas City newspapers push revived centralized highway plan but the state moves ahead with its balanced road system. By 1928, cross state routes and extensive county and township improvements promise easier market access, while motorists praise real progress and dismiss revived road issue. Governor Paulen favors the old plan yet accepts its likely failure.

Globe Lightes Atchison Wit and Quips Mix
Atchison’s Globe Light column strings a collage of wry bits and social quips. Jokes about women, reforms, and prosperity mingle with reflections on New Year resolutions, gossip, dress, and local character, all set in a playful small town voice. A Christmas night anecdote and a gentleman’s line about investments close the year’s snippets.
Age is no bar to work and leadership across ages
The piece argues age does not limit ability from youth to extreme old age. It cites James A. Reed in his seventies seeking the presidency, Chauncy Depew at ninety as railroad chair, Uncle Joe Allen over eighty as bank president, and Charles Terry selling doors near ninety, noting even health and ambition persist with time. The adage the good die young is mirrored by New Year’s resolutions.
