Percy L. Killey, 57, long known in northeast Kansas as a lumberman, died at 2 p.m. at Atchison hospital after three days of serious heart illness. Born in Atchison, he worked in Effingham and Netawaka lumber yards with his father, later at Horton, in culvert manufacture, and in banking. In recent years he traveled for Nell Welby Lumber Co. His body rested at Lawin Douglas funeral home pending funeral arrangements. he had no known living relatives.

Two Young Men Suspected in Abbuehl Store Cash Theft
From Thursday's Daily December 22. Between 145 and 150 dollars were stolen from a cash box in Abbuehl Maytag Co. office at 506 Commercial Street. Two well dressed young men posing as customers sparked the theft. one entered requesting a washing machine part, the other a used motor. Mrs. N C Lyon discovered the box empty after the men departed. Ira Davis, a Maytag salesman, was in the office when the theft happened. Police searched locally and in neighboring cities. no insurance covered the loss.

He had farmed in Wetmore 33 years retiring in 1927 to live near Atchison. Survived by widow five sons J G Hendershot Roy Hendershot Charles Hendershot Harold Hendershot Elmer Hendershot five daughters Lionel Kling Cew Kew Dunster Paris Roy Levick Kansas City Wetmore three sisters Al Dickson Mary Jane Beaman Susan Earhart 29 grandchildren seven great grandchildren and two sons Col J F E Hendershot Leslie Hendershot preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements not set. Likely Friday at Wetmore with burial there.

Troy Store Fire Destroys Mrs. Rakow Dry Goods
A fire originating near a pipeless furnace destroyed the stock and badly damaged the Mrs. Goldie Rakow dry goods store in Troy at 3 AM Friday. The building and shelving were scorched, with smoke and water damage extensive. Insurance covered 4,800 on the building and 2,000 on the stock, with additional 2,000 lapses noted. Mrs. Rakow escaped through a window. J N Hays heard her cries and alerted nearby. The adjacent Hays Cafe, Dr. Merrick’s dental office, and C. E. Butts’ law office were left smoky.

Mrs Laberta Wertz 77 died at 3 this morning at her daughter Mrs J H Rook's home in Muscotah after years of ill health. Funeral at Muscotah Methodist church Saturday at 1:30 led by Rev Jesse W Foster. Burial in Holton family lot. Born Oct 22 1855 in Coshocton Ohio, she married George Wertz in 1872. Survived by daughters Mrs Rook and Mrs Tweedy, four siblings, and a brother. Two children, Ella Belle and Lester Monroe Wertz, preceded her.
