Emma Barbara Backes Compton 71 widow of John Compton longtime Atchison fire chief died at her daughter’s home after a long illness. She was born in Syracuse 1861 and moved to Atchison in the 1860s. Funeral services at St Benedict’s with rosary at home tonight and burial in Mt Vernon. survivors include daughter Mrs Frank Wertz two sons John and James, two sisters and nine grandchildren.
