Fire at Compton destroys village businesses and stores
A Thursday morning blaze in Compton started in William Cotter’s barber shop and, aided by high winds, burned for hours. Loss is about 35000 with partial insurance. Buildings destroyed include Hills post office and drug store, Hodge barber shop, Coffman and Johnson store, Crain’s barber shop, Berry’s meat shop, Chandler’s livery barn and other structures. Firefighters and volunteers fought the blaze as the town’s only bank and several stores suffered, with rebuilding expected in brick after this severe Lee county tragedy.

Serious Accident Involving Farm Wagon Near Burnham Elevator
A Rich ard Smith team backed off a scale at Burnham elevator causing the oats road to derail the wagon. The collision damaged Herman Kersten s buggy and left him with a head wound while Mrs Kersten sustained serious chest injuries. their child was spared. The Kersten family was en route to town when the crash occurred on a rural road. Sunday services at the Presbyterian church followed by a Great Salvation event and a Christian Endeavor meeting with Rev. Stevens and J Charter slated for the evening. A report on the Geneva Switzerland convention is promised for Thursday evening.
