Vertical writing abolished as Ashton adopts slant method
The Ashton Public School Board ends use of the Normal Review or Vertical writing system after years of trial. Slant writing is adopted as the practical alternative, aligning with trends in Chicago and across the country. New copy books cost five cents, offering nearly the same content as the vertical system whose books sold for ten cents.
