Death of G W Messer After Stroke in Ashton Area
G William Messer, born December 12 1841, died Friday at 8 30 pm at age 74 years 9 months 27 days after a paralytic stroke. He and wife Anna Griese Messer farmed in Reynolds Illinois before retiring to Ashton. Survived by wife eleven children fourteen grandchildren and several brothers. Funeral Monday at home and Presbyterian church with interment in Ashton cemetery. Residence for sale: eleven room house in Ashton via Mrs George Kersten Sr contact 193.

White Frost Ends Gardens and Crop Damage Report
A severe killing frost settled Friday morning, leaving ground white for a few hours after sunrise and injuring uncovered flowers and gardens. The frost season slowed corn growth, with overall damage higher than typical due to a cold wet season.
