Governor Deneen Defends Record At City Rally

Governor Charles S. Deneen spoke to a 200 to 300 person crowd aboard a special train, defending his administration against James Dunne’s charges of extravagance. McCullough, a Civil War veteran, spoke earlier, while General Dickenson introduced Deneen.

Ex mayor of Chicago Judge Edward F. Ashton Young Men Marry Grace Metzler and Yocum

The marriage of Grace E. Metzler of Dixon to Harry M. Yocum occurred Saturday at three o clock at the Dixon Methodist parsonage with Rev. F D Stone officiating. The couple will reside on a farm four miles north of Ashton. Harry Billmire and Eva Rathburn wed in Dixon with only witnesses present and will live in Rochelle. The weather has been ideal with warm days and good roads. leaves remain green but will color with upcoming frosts.

Van Ness Quarry Road Contract Under Way in Palmyra

John Lenox of Palmyra township arrived with a crew to build 22000 dollars worth of hard roads. One third of the work is to be finished before ground freezes, with northwest township completion targeted this fall. The crew set up a crushing machinery camp and will live in tents or nearby quarters as weather permits rapid progress.

Northwestern depot raised to final height in Amboy

The Northwestern depot was lifted yesterday with ten jack screws and many workers, achieving final height in a day and a half. Additional screws supported sagging center, with months of work ahead to finish platforms and crossings. Three cars of cinders unloaded and lumber arrived for new framework and possible platform plans. County candidates here visit voters in Lee County

Circuit Clerk William B. McMahan and States Attorney Harry Edwards toured the city Tuesday afternoon. Edwards, nearing the end of his first term, was the unanimous primary choice for re election, and McMahan, praised for managing the county real estate records, received endorsement as well.

Case Goes To January Term In Murder Case

Warren Sanders faces a murder charge in the trial of his wife Mrs Westanna Sanders and mother in law Mrs George E Griffith. He pleads not guilty and attorney John B Erwin requests a continuance until the January term. Judge Heard overrules the motion and grants the delay as defense preparations proceed. Sanders remained calm and chatted with reporters after the ruling.
