Hoover Travels to Europe to Lead Food Aid Effort

Herbert Hoover, US food administrator, heads to Europe to supervise relief efforts and deter Bolshevik-driven hunger and unrest. He stresses that food conservation at home must continue and a new nationwide drive starts December 1. The war ends only when global peace is reestablished, he says.

M E Ladies Aid Christmas Party at Parsonage

The Ladies Aid of the M E church will meet at the parsonage for a Christmas party on Wednesday afternoon December 4. A musical program will be enjoyed and a menu of sandwiches coffee duchess cream wafers served. All members and families invited. Mrs Charles Hanson received a letter from her son Cobb on German soil written October 12 on railway bills while on duty aboard a gun.

High School Viands and Holiday Plans at Urbana

The high school enjoyed a Friday vacation as teachers attended a meet at Urbana. Professor Strong was absent but expected this week. Grayce Walter visited, Joseph Roesler damaged a tooth after tripping over a cow while outside early one morning. The Junior English class finished Twelfth Night and begins a new play. Thanksgiving wishes go out to all, with December 4 looming for the next school event. Fox Moore returns after two weeks, and several others were absent. Mildred Knapp withdraws for health reasons. Tickets for the Entertainment Course are $1.25 for the remaining four numbers. Bryn Mawr visit noted for the 4th.

Deputy Sheriff Frank Schoenholz has taken the oath and filed bonds and will assume office next Monday December 2 along with other county officials. Road Building in Illinois Next Spring

Illinois to begin a 4600 mile system of hard roads next spring after War Industries Board lifted building restrictions. Early routes include Chicago St Louis, St Louis Terre Haute, Dixie Chicago to Danville, Lincoln Chicago to Fulton Iowa line and Chicago to Wisconsin via Waukegan. Over 10 million dollars will be available from federal state and county sources before July 1 1920, including funds from a 60 million bond issue approved by voters.

War Savings Stamps to Enter New Permanent System

War Savings Stamps will return next year under a new war loan board with Liberty Bonds and treasury certificates. Illinois campaign supervised by the Federal Reserve Bank seventh district. The program aims to make every citizen a member of a war savings society and invest weekly. The 1919 blue stamp will feature Franklin and be slightly smaller.
